Last Day for High School
Miscellaneous pictures from end of May
We had a chemistry lab, special devotional by Matthew Malitsky, and Michael Wolf took his last PACE test -- ever! Last week we ended our Friday devotion groups with Iced Coffee for those who did their preparation work. The Math 76 class learned how to play Math24. The elementary had a big auction to use up the rest of their merits. Two boys will be moving up to the high school next year -- Hudson Hall and James Malitsky. This week is the final week for most students who have completed their required PACE work. Graduation is Saturday.
Honor Roll Trip to Ozzyy's
Wow, it really has been a while since we posted! Briar Rose yesterday said she checks every day and we haven't posted anything for weeks :-)
In the meantime, the teens went to Illinois for competition the end of March and here is the link to the website with updates from that trip: http://ibsc2012.posterous.com/
And Mr. Anger was in Israel that week. More here: http://in-his-steps.posterous.com/
But yesterday we took the high school honor roll students to Ozzy's near Reading for three hours of laser tag, mini-golf, rock-climbing, rope walking, roller skating, and even McDonald Playland! We were looking forward to the go-karts, but due to the rain they did not open that section. The 16 teens had a great time though with the other activities -- and just being with their friends. Congratulations!
Bricks 4 Kidz
Today the Elementary students who made honor roll went to "Bricks for Kidz". This group LOVES playing with Legos so this was the perfect place to take them! First of all, they talked about different inventions, specifically the invention of the conveyor belt. They broke up into 4 groups and actually made their own conveyor belt out of Legos! A motor was then attached and Lego bricks could actually be transported across their creation!! They then enjoyed a contest to see how high they could make brick towers by making the Legos cross their conveyor belts. They had to put their hands on their head until they heard the word "Go!" to make sure they didn't try to get a head start. :-) At first they could use any bricks they wanted, but next they had to use only 1 color, and lastly, they had to make a color pattern. It required lots of teamwork as they only had 1 minute to see how high they could make their tower! After they built towers, they then made Lego windshield wipers that actually swished back and forth. Did you know that a woman named Mary Anderson was the one who invented the first windshield wipers for horse-drawn carriages? The girls definitely enjoyed that piece of trivia :-) It was definitely a fun time for all!
Celebration or Mourning
The staff and students came to school today dressed in all black to mourn my moving past the big 5-0 milemarker and down the hill! The teens enjoyed pizza for lunch and the staff had ice cream cake. The elementary children made special cards for me. Of course all the "old timers" banners and balloons came out for decoration! The only thing that could have made it a better day would have been SNOW :-) Thankfully, I was over the stomach bug by today and felt well again and could enjoy the celebration.

Ben Anger took pictures at the TEACH Invitatational Tournament and posted them on FaceBook. I think the following link will work anybody, even if you don't have a facebook account:

High School Honor Roll Lunch
Those students who made honor roll for second quarter were able to go to Cici's Pizza for lunch. Yum! Teens know how to put away pizza!
January 2012 Came and Went
The last two weeks of the second quarter ended on Friday the 13th of January. Several students made honor roll and those in the high school went to Cici's Pizza to celebrate. The Biology students are doing a set of dissections with Mrs. Gable on Friday afternoons. The elementary art students made butterflies and Valentine theme decorations. Meanwhile the EBA Basketball team has been very busy and played some really good ball, winning most of their games!
Teen Christmas Party
Elementary Christmas Party
The first game was a Christmas ornament scavenger hunt. Each team had a Christmas tree to decorate. They had to send members of their team downstairs to find certain ornaments for their tree. Each ornament was worth a certain amount of points. The first team to get all their ornaments on the tree in the right places was the winner. The second game was "Christmas Bingo". Each child was given a card with all different pictures related to the Christmas story. One child would select a card from the pile and the rest would use a marker to cover that picture on their card if they had it. The first child to get 4 in a row shouted "Merry Christmas!" and won the game. The third game was Christmas Corners. In each corner of the room there was a picture - Jingle Bells, Candy Canes, Snowmen, and Gingerbread Men. The children would run around the room, and when the music stopped they had to find a corner. A picture would then be drawn from the basket, and whoever was in that particular corner would be out. Whoever was the last person standing won the game for their team! The fourth game was Christmas Word Scramble. Each team was given letter cards and a bunch of Christmas related words. They had 15 minutes to unscramble all the letters in their pile and hold up the correct letters to make words. Whoever was able to hold up the most words in that amount of time won the game! The fifth game was Christmas Wreath Targets. There were 3 wreaths on the board. Each wreath was worth a certain amount of points. A team member was given 3 tries to hit the wreaths with a ball. If they hit a wreath target, they won points for their team! The sixth game was Musical Candy Pass. The children sat in a circle and two people were given a candy cane filled with Hershey kisses. While the music played, the children passed the candy canes around the circle. When the music stopped, whoever was holding the candy cane, got to have 2 Hershey kisses and some points for their team. In the end, whoever pulled the last 2 Hershey kisses from the candy canes received 100 points for their team! After these games were over, there were a few minutes left before it was time for lunch, so Mr. Follett played a quick game of Christmas Hangman with the children, while Miss Follett tallied up all the points. He tried to stump them with words like Luke, Bethlehem, shepherds, gold and myrrh, but they were able to figure it out each time! And the winning team for the day was...THE GREEN TEAM!!We then all went upstairs to enjoy the yummy lunch Mrs. Lytle prepared. Hot dogs, macaroni & cheese, apple sauce, chips, carrots, fruit punch, and Christmas cupcakes!
